Homeowners Insurance

Your home isn’t just a structure made of beams and walls—it’s your castle and it deserves to be protected. We bear the burden of shopping multiple carriers to find affordable homeowners insurance coverage that will protect your home and provide you with the peach of mind you desire.

Your Independent Agent

All insurance is not created equal; nor are the companies and agencies who sell it.  As a Trusted Choice independent agent, R. Allan Miles Insurance provides a professional consultation to understand your needs, carefully choose policy options, explain the details of the policy, and guide you in making the best decision for your homeowners insurance.

Though homeowners insurance isn’t required by law, most mortgage lenders require it.  At minimum, they want your policy to cover or exceed the amount you owe on the loan.

Common Coverages

  • Property damage—coverage for damage to your house and any permanent structures on your property
  • Personal property—damage to or theft of your personal belongings
  • Liability—loss of use, personal liability and medical pay

To put it simply, homeowners insurance is designed to repair, replace or recover the value of what you currently have (under coverage) if it’s damaged due to any number of causes.

Differences In Coverage Options

Most standard homeowners insurance policies will cover your home at a limit higher than what you probably paid to buy or build it. Why? This is because it will likely cost more to build a brand new home on your property in the event the current structure is completely destroyed. This coverage is called replacement cost, and most standard homeowners insurance policies offer this as default coverage for your house.

Are You Adequately Covered?

Many homeowners think they have adequate homeowners coverage; however, according to TrustedChoice.com, 60% of homeowners are underinsured.   Unfortunately, they often don’t find out until it’s claim time.  Here are a few suggestions on making sure you have the appropriate coverage:

  • Add an umbrella policy to increase coverage by up to $1 million or more
  • Protect higher-value items like jewelry and art through “riders” or “endorsements”
  • Get replacement cost home insurance instead of “actual cash value,” which only covers the current depreciated value

Discounts Available

Going beyond finding the best coverage, we will apply any available discounts to make your insurance more affordable.  Some discounts are built in the way we design the product.  Additional discounts often available include the following:

  • Bundling/multi-policy
  • Camera system
  • Claim-free
  • First time buyer
  • Monitored burglar system
  • New home
  • New (or newer) roof
  • Non-smoker
  • Smoke alarm

We are on your side!  We’re here to explain to you and help you choose the appropriate amount of coverage based on your specific needs. Surveys say more than 55% of the population don’t understand their homeowners insurance policy.  Our knowledgeable agent will discuss what is covered and what is excluded so you completely understand your policy.
